Crucial Conversations: Get Unstuck with Best Practice Skills for High-Stakes Interactions

Presenter: Mary Schoenborn w/ Essentia Health

Overview:

When ever you're not getting the results you're looking for, it's likely that a crucial conversation is keeping you stuck. Whether it's a problem with poor quality, slow time-to-market, declining customer satisfaction, or a strained relationship, if you can't talk honestly with nearly anybody about almost anything, you can expect poor results. Make crucial conversations skills your best practices and everything gets better. This session will help you handle crucial conversations-conversations that occur when the stakes are high, emotions run strong, and opinions vary.

Do Any of These Situations Sound Familiar?

  • When setting goals, your boss gives unreasonable targets but no one dares question him/her. Later, when the team falls short of the plan, everyone says, “I knew we’d never make it.”
  • Your boss rarely acknowledges your comments, doesn’t return your phone calls, and fails to relay vital information. But surfacing the issue would just make you look even more pathetic.

With Crucial Conversations Skills, You'll Be Able To...

  • Prepare for high-stakes situations with a proven technique
  • Transform anger and hurt feelings into powerful dialogue
  • Make it safe to talk about almost anything
  • Be persuasive, not abrasive
  • Improve nearly every professional and personal relationship
  • Yield major professional improvements in areas like productivity, quality, safety, diversity, and change management

This session is approved for 1.0 general certification credits.
