Back by request, we have assembled the ACA Panel for a continued discussion of the ACA and recent updates/changes.  The Affordable Care Act (ACA) continues to have us all a little confused. With the recent mandate delays and major provisions coming effective in 2014 - are you and your organization as ready as you can be? Join our panel participants and other attendees in a group discussion to help us navigate together the current knowns and unknowns of the ACA.

Speaker Biographies

Shannon Breuer, CPA, CEBS, Partner

Shannon is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Employee Benefits Specialist. She has nearly 15 years public accounting experience working with federal and state income-tax incentives for rehabilitation projects and affordable housing/multi-family dwellings. She concentrates in the areas of partnership taxation and employee benefit plans and sits on the AICPA Partnership Technical Resource Panel. She also serves as a health reform office champion. She received her B.S. degree in Business Administration from North Dakota State University.

Lisa Carlson, Director of Planning & Regulation

For 12 years Lisa has served a variety of roles at the health plan which, today, includes compliance, provider contracting, public policy, and oversight of Medicare and federal product lines. On a daily basis she works with four different State Divisions of Insurance and Departments of Commerce in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Iowa. Lisa received her B.S. degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and her Master’s in Health Services Administration at the University of Kansas. Prior to the health plan she worked in the fields of occupational medicine and academic research.

Ask Brian Boraas what he loves most about his job and he will tell you that it is working with caring people who love their jobs. Brian is a people person. He enjoys working and interacting with both clients and colleagues on a daily basis.

Brian has more than 23 years of experience in the insurance industry, including 14 years with United Healthcare and Kaiser Permanente. John Sutton, SilverStone Group’s Regional Director, said “The depth of Brian’s background with his claims, large group underwriting and Chief Financial Officer experience will be invaluable in assisting our clients to manage the changing complexities of healthcare benefits.”

 He has conducted hundreds of employee meetings and underwriting trainings. Brian is skilled in developing client relationships that are built on great service. He brings value to clients by analyzing their employee benefit programs and making recommendations to create understandable and valuable programs for employers and employees. 

 When not at work, Brian enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. When his children were younger, he coached them in football, baseball and basketball.

Rhonda Loberg, Independent Insurance Agent

Rhonda focuses on assisting individuals, families, seniors, and employer groups in securing affordable and reliable health insurance coverage. She is an independent insurance agent representing multiple carriers and a former regional account executive for Medica. She also owns Starboard Consulting, which offers meeting facilitation and consulting services in strategic planning and program development for healthcare and community-based organizations. Rhonda has a master’s degree in Health Care Administration from the University of MN, Twin Cities.

Mike Potts, Director of Employee Consulting & Wellness Services

Mike has been with BCBS of ND for over 22 years. He brings a diversity of experiences to his current role, providing direction to a dedicated consulting team that supports employer groups and provides value-added analysis of data to identify improvement opportunities. Prior to his current position, he spent 14 years overseeing the Provider Relations department at BCBS of ND. Mike holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of North Dakota and an MBA from the University of Mary. 

 

Recertification Credit

 

This session is pending approval for 1.0 General credit hours toward PHR/SPHR re-certification through the HR Certification Institute.
